The American Purebred Association

studThe American Purebred Association was started in September 1909 as a multiple breed association. The residing president, Mr Guy McCord was an avid fancier and breeder of the Terrier and was a close friend of John P Colby. Mr Colby was the mainstay of the American Dog Breeders Association.

All members, in good standing could register their dogs and litters with the registration department for a yearly fee of $2.50. in time, the exclusive members idea was eventually replaced into an open registery to all owners and breeders of purebred dogs. Over time the organization became focused on the registration of terriers.

The American Dog Breed Association changed hands in 1951 and the emphasis became the registration of the terrier breed exclusively.

The American Purebred Association continues to grow in the USA and in other countries.

The American Purebred Association is the largest registration office of the Terrier and is now accepting other purebred dogs, usually working breeds.

The registery has opened it's stud book to accept all purebred dogs.
